PHARAOH-A Useful Life
There were many Pharaoh littered throughout the scriptures. This is the name given to any ruler in Egypt in old times and presently they are called Narmer.
These Pharaohs contributed one way or the other to the plan God had for his children in the bible.
Starting from the Pharaoh that cast his eyes on Sarah when Abraham went to Egypt because of famine in Canaan.
There was this Pharaoh that helped Joseph and made him a ruler who also gave the children of Israel the land of Goshen to live in Egypt.
There came up also the Pharaoh that does not know Joseph and all he did and subjected the Israelite to bondage.
King Solomon married the daughter of a Pharaoh which was given to him as a wife.
Among all these Pharaohs there is this one that was not only raised to make the power of God known but accomplished that purpose to the details.
“For the scripture said unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.” Romans 9vs 17.
Though theologians and archeologists are yet to establish whether the name of this particular pharaoh is SETI or RAMSES II but from the scripture, he was singled out among them by performance.
“Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.
And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:
Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it comes to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
Therefore, they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Rameses”. Exo 1:8–11
That was a strong statement from a man who never knew that his action was in alignment with the very purpose of his creation.
The Israelites will never forget Pharaoh, the sudden change from being a long term friend to being treated as a slave. That is a trauma!
Everything was going on fine in Goshen until these thoughts came up in Pharaoh’s mind that the Israelite should be denied freedom.
Each time Moses goes to him to negotiate the deliverance of God’s people, Pharaoh always comes up with an objection. Not that he is aware of what he is doing but God himself was finding expression through him.
God was deriving pleasure from his hardened heart.
Until God was done using him to express His power he didn’t allow Gods people to go.
For each of the 10 plagues in Egypt, the Egyptians suffered for it and recorded losses.
Before his last pursuit of the Israelites, the pharaoh just lost his first son but his heart was too hardened not to see all these until God was done displaying His power through he didn’t leave him alone.
His death in the red sea though tragic was just to concluded his assignment.
He was mentioned almost everywhere in the bible both in the prophets and the apostles and till today.
God used him to tell us many things about his greatness, power, redemption, restoration, and Christ.
Upon this revelation of God through pharaoh we can build our faith in God today.
He died empty!
What a life.
